IntroductionHassan Nisar is a successful Pakistani columnist, journalist, and analyst. He has been affiliated with GEO TV and Jang Group. He has become a household name due to his frequent appearances on talk shows. He is best known for his column ‘Choraha’ which he writes for Jang Group. He used to run his own talk show ‘Choraha’ on GEO TV. He also appeared on talk show Meray Mutabiq on GEO News for some time. He quit working for Jan Group and GEO TV in August 2012 due to some differences with their management. Subsequently, he joined DUNYA News and resumed his program with the new title ‘Meri Dunya’. He worked for DUNYA News for 8 months and moved back to Jang Group in April 2013 after his differences were resolved with their management. He is famous for his straightforwardness and firm stances. Early Life EducationHis mother was from a rich background while his father’s family has literary background. He has five siblings (one brother and four sisters). His grandparents migrated to Pakistan during the partition of India. A crossroad in Amritsar is still associated with his paternal grandfather (Farid Chowk). His grandfather was an intellectual and was fluent in English and Farsi. Hassan’s father settled in Faisalabad after partition while his paternal grandfather settled in Mian Cahnnu. Hassan’s family sent him to Mian Channu to live and study under his grandfather’s guardianship. Hassan Nisar stayed in Mian Channu for two years but had to move back to Faisalabad due to poor schooling conditions. Hassan completed his Matriculation and FA from Faisalabad. He moved to Punjab University Lahore to pursue his higher studies. He studied Journalism and Economics at Punjab University Lahore.
Personal LifeHassan Nisar married scriptwriter and poet Saeeda Hashmi. They met each other at Radio Pakistan Lahore. They have three sons. Unfortunately, their marriage did not work out and they divorced. He married his 2nd and current wife Shazia in 1995. Shazia’s parents were not in favor of their marriage. Hassan and Shazia remained committed in their relationship. His 2nd marriage has a daughter ‘Mohammadah’ and two sons ‘Hasham’ and ‘Hatam’. Hassan’s sons from his first marriage stayed with Hassan for a while then shifted to their mom.
Professional CareerHassan Nisar’s father wanted him to become CSP officer after completing his studies but Hassan himself wanted to become a movie writer. However, he started his professional career as a journalist in 1972 when he was offered a job. His first salary was 350 rupees a month. He started off working with Dhanak Magazine and lived in a room of Dhanak’s office. He also composed poetry, movie songs and edited the monthly magazine Zanjeer.He also started a ‘Dahi Ballay and ‘Tikka Kabab’ business in model town. His business was successful from which he earned a handsome amount each month. In addition to journalism, Hassan wrote poetry, movie songs and worked as an editor. A movie produces bought his songs but used his own name as a poet. This made Hassan sad and disappointed. Hassan also worked for newspapers Masawat, Khabrain and Sadaqat.
CareerNisar started his career as a journalist.he has appeared on TV talk shows including Meray Mutabiq and “Choraha” on Geo News.He left Jang Group and GEO TV Network in August 2012 and joined to Dunya News, he presented programme Meri Duny. However, after a short time at Dunya News, he re-joined Jang Group and GEO TV Network in April 2013
Political AffiliationsHassan Nisar used to be a strong supporter of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. He was imprisoned by Gen. Zia ul Haq’s regime for publishing material against the dictator. Like many other journalists, Hassan Nisar also faced many difficulties during Gen. Zia’s rule. At one point he had to leave the country to work in Saudi Arabia for some time.
Hassan Nisar regrets supporting PTIThe well-known analyst Hassan Nisar has indicated his disappointment for Imran Khan by saying that 'I am guilty that I urged people to vote Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf as they all are ill-mannered, ignorant and unintelligent. He said while speaking to local media ' I had expected that they had done some type of homework on administration before coming into power, however, it seems like they were out on a picnic or out on the town and abruptly ended up in a power'. He added that ' They keep on making task forces, I had thought these task forces were already made'.
