Family and Education
Ahmed Hussain A. Kazi was born in the city of Hyderabad, Sindh then part of the Bombay Presidency of British India.He matriculated in the year of 1936 and secured the Sir Jairajbhoy Peerbhoy scholarship of the institution of University of Bombay for standing 1st amongst the Muslim candidates. In1938, Ahmed Hussain A. Kazi annexed the Sir Frank Souter scholarship in his intermediate exams for the similar reason. In 1940 he secured a 1st class honors degree in the subjects of Mathematics and English. In 1942, Ahmed Hussain A. Kazi graduated a 2nd time with a LL.B degree in the subject of Law and Justice from the institute of Bombay University.
He belonged to Paat village in Dadu District and was the mere surviving child of Dr Ali Ahmed S Kazi, one of the some Muslim physicians from the province of Sindh at the time, who developed the Liaquat Medical School Hyderabad was the 1st Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital Karachi and subsequently Director Health Services, Government of Sindh.
He was a proposed grand nephew of Allama I. I. Ahmed Hussain A. Kazi the famous Muslim scholar and philosopher, and his talented German wife Elsa Kazi. Ahmad H A Kazi had an outstanding academic career, acquired various scholarships and awards, and finally emerged as one of the leading civil servants of Pakistan. He married his cousin Ayesha daughter of famous educationist Khan Bahadur Ghulam Nabi Kazi MBE in the year 1946.
After getting his law degree and enrolment as an Advocate of the Chief Court now High Court of Sindh, Ahmed joined government service after competing in the Indian Audits and Accounts Service and Allied Services examination of the year 1944 in British India. During his initial posting as Income Tax Officer Bombay in the year 1945 he worked under John Burt Shearer a senior Indian Civil Service officer working as Commissioner Income Tax Bombay. He later chose to serve in the state Pakistan after independence in the year 1947 and organized senior positions like Commissioner of Income Tax in the cities of Karachi, Lahore, Sindh and Baluchistan, Member Central now Federal Board of Revenue (Pakistan), and Finance Director Pakistan Steel Mills Corporation. In the revenue work implemented by him, he had intensive training in commercial accounts in all kinds of business, commerce and industry giving him the essential background for industrial management and development.
Ahmed Hussain A. Kazi was promoted as Secretary to the Government of Pakistan and held the office of Chairman Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation, the greatest industrial conglomerate at that time, from the time period of 1974-1978. During this time, he was also Chairman of all the gas companies of Pakistan involving Sui Gas Transmission company, Indus Gas Company, Karachi Gas Company and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines.
He also sustained to be the Chairman Pakistan Institute of Management. Some of the PIDC projects he headed involved Harnai Woolen Mills, Talpur Textile Mills, Liquified Petroleum Gas project in the cities of Quetta and Larkana, Timber Seasoning Plant, PIDC Printing Press, Dir Forest Industries Complex, Harnai Woolen Mills, Mineral Development Program Baluchistan, Specialized Refractory Plant, Sor Range Coal Mines, Rock Salt Mines in Khewra and various other sites, Coal Briquetting Plant, Quetta, Timber Preservation and Seasoning Plant, Qaidabad Woolen Mills, General Refractories, Indus Steel Pipes, Haripur Rosin and Turpentine, Shahdadkot Textile Mills, Bawany Sugar Mills, Larkana Sugar Mills and Bannu Sugar Mills.

He was also the 1st Managing Director of the National Fertilizers Corporation and Pakistan-Iran Textiles and facilitated on the Board of Directors of the Maple Leaf Cement Factory, White Cement Industries, Khurram Chemicals, Lyallpur Chemicals and Fertilizers, Pak-American Fertilizers, Makerwal Collieries, Crescent Jute Products, Zeal Pak Cement, Pak Arab Fertilizers.
Famous for Integrity and Efficiency
Ahmed Hussain A. Kazi was thus well acquainted with the processes in the Finance, Revenue, Commerce, Planning, Industries, Production and Economic Affairs of the Government of Pakistan. He was famous for his integrity and efficiency. At the time of his death, he was living in a house constructed by his father and he never even gained a single plot of land throughout his life, despite the fact that persons who had remained in the offices he held emerged as major industrialists of Pakistan.
After his retirement in 1979, he practiced as an advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan until his appointment as Chairman ad hoc Public Accounts Committee Sindh. He held the latter post until the induction of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh in the year1985. Thereafter he rejected an offer to contest the Senate elections on a technocrat seat and denied to take up any political office, as he was averse to politics by nature. He was granted the civil award of Tamgha-e-Pakistanat an early point in his career in recognition of his loyalty, honesty and integrity to the state Pakistan. An avid student of comparative religion, he learn the Holy Quran by heart and was well-versed in earlier Scriptures.
Ahmed Hussain A. Kazi died at the age of 86.His Family Mrs Ayesha Kazi (Wife), daughter Dr Nilofer Qureshi a Professor of Basic Medical Sciences at the institute of University of Missouri–Kansas City, and 2 sons Safdar Kazi Senior Vice President Sindh Bank Limited and Dr Ghulam Nabi Kazi National Professional Officer of the World Health Organization Pakistan. His grand children involve Arif Qureshi, Ahmed Hussain A. Kazi, Sonya Kazi, Asad Kazi and Elsa Kazi Jr, while he has left behind 2 great grand children Ari and Zoe Qureshi.
